Robotics

Robotics classes are open for students in grades 5 to 12. Students will learn a variety of skills including programming, building, and CAD modelling with emphasis on the engineering design process. Interested students may also be invited to join the competition teams upon completion of fundamental courses. The robotics offerings are as follows:

VEX001 - Intro to Robotics Programming

Developing coding solutions with a robot provides a relevant context for engaging students in CS. In this course, students will learn fundamentals of robot programming with Python and how to control robots with sensors. The VEX VR Virtual Playground helps to visualize STEM learning and increase student involvement. Activities provide a structured and approachable STEM learning experience.

VEX002 - Intro to Mechanical Design

Understanding mechanics is a fundamental skill for budding engineers. Using an online or desktop CAD software, students will learn simple physics and how computer aided design is used for industrial products.

VRC2022CMP_R

This class will be an introduction to the 2022-2023 VEX Robotics Competition, Spin Up. Students will learn basic mechanics, programming, and engineering design. Upon completion of this course, high performing students are welcome to join a competition team.

VIQC Rookie Team Preparation

This class will be an introduction to the 2022-2023 VEX IQ Competition, Slapshot. Students will learn basic mechanics, programming, and engineering design. Upon completion of this course, high performing students are welcome to join a competition team.

VIQ Team

A class for returning team members, students will begin preparation for the 2022-2023 VEX IQ Competition, Slapshot.

Course Requirements

Team related classes will be run in-person with hybrid options. Students should have a laptop/desktop capable of running a Windows OS or MacOS. 
  • ​Class Materials:
    1. One laptop capable of running a Windows OS or MacOS. Chrome books may also be allowed in rare instances.
      • Students in VRC must have a laptop with a minimum of 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
      • Students in VIQ must have a laptop with a minimum of 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
    2. ​​One Composition Notebook
    3. Writing Instruments - 3 colors minimum
